Re: Getting Fed Up With MapSource Unlock

Yeah that is what I said. My point is why should I be forced to sell a
perfectly good map that I don't want to sell? I can't sell it as new so
now I'm out the difference between what I sell it for and what I pay for
the new one. A new GPS is already an expensive investment, I really don't
need to add a replacement cost for something I did not want to sell in
the first place.

It all comes down to the company accountants. They have two options in
order to attempt to maximize profits. Either trust the customer (within
reason) and build up consumer loyalty but lose revenue due to abuse of trust
by an unknown proportion of dishonest people or else screw everything
squeaky tight to prevent piracy but then lose a proportion of pissed-off
customers. Unfortunately the second approach is probably much easier to
manage and quantify, particularly in the current conditions of an expanding
market where loyal customers are to some extent a disposable asset.

The day that Loyal Customers become a disposable asset, is when the
beginning of a company's downfall becomes apparent...at least when the
bean counters observe their once-Loyal Customers start buying the other
company's products. ;)
