I have a Magellan Explorist 600 that uses a USB connector for connection to PC. I also have an older set of Topographical Maps that only support connection to GPS using a serial connection. Is there a connector available that is USB to serial so I can use my present software?
Does the eXplorist have a NMEA output? If it does, then you it should also have either a built in serial to USB adapter or a set of contacts for the serial output.
It it has a built in serial to USB adapter, you'll see a virtual COM port show up in the Device Manager Ports COM & LPT category when you plug the GPS in. And your software should be able to see that.
I don't know of any third party software that will upload topo maps to a Magellan, only the MapSend products. Tell us if that works for you, it would be nice to know if there is another way to get topo maps into a eXplorist.
