Re: Yet another possible bug in CSx fimrware/hardware: No reconnect!

For whatever it's worth, regarding my own GPSMAP 60CSx:

While I was on a trip in Costa Rica, I was still using firmware
version 2.60 and I had WAAS turned off since it wouldn't serve much of
a purpose there.
While passing through the Túnel Zurquí / Zurqui Tunnel, about a
half-mile (.8 km), I didn't have any significant signal reaquisition
problems, though on the new tracklog it started, the first leg
recorded that I went .5 miles (.8 km) in 2 seconds (827 miles per hour
/ 1331 kmph)--not bad for a minibus!

A week after returning to the US, I turned WAAS back on and I
installed firmware 2.62 beta after realizing that it automatically
saves active tracklogs to the memory card (wish I realized that before
going to Costa Rica). The following day, I travelled through the
Baltimore, Maryland area and passed through the Baltimore Harbor
Tunnel (Interstate 895). The GPS lost its signal and upon exiting the
tunnel, it was never able to reaquire the signal. I shut off the GPS
and turned it back on and it re-aquired the signal.

While passing through the same tunnel a few days later in the opposite
direction, I shut off the GPS as soon as it lost its signal inside the
tunnel and turned it back on close to the tunnel exit. Everything was
fine.

Yesterday evening I drove about 160 km from Oslo to Porsgrunn along E18,
a road that goes through 8-10 tunnels.

Three or four times when passing those tunnels, after losing sat lock
for so long that the GPS complained, it failed to reacquire when we left
the tunnel: Watching the GPS screen I could see how it reacquired a
bunch of satellites a few seconds after exiting the tunnel, then a
fraction of a second later it suddenly lost all of them, and would then
stay indefinitely (i.e at least more than 5 minutes before I gave up and
did a full power-off/power-on reset) in this state, never gaining back
any of the sat channels.

I have now re-applied the 2.60 firmware instead of the 2.62beta which
I've been using until now, I'll report back if/when I get any different
results.

PS. I also had a Quest sitting side-by-side with the 76CSx, the Quest
GPS with the garmin engine reacquired the current position within 10
seconds of leaving each tunnel.
