I will be travelling for six weeks this summer with my Garmin GPS 60. The ideal solution for managing my GPS data would be to run a GPS application from a USB memory key then uploading to my web site using an ftp client also run from memory key. Portable Filezilla can be run as a stand alone ftp client run from the flash drive, but, so far I have not been able to find a portable stand alone GPS application that can be run from the flash drive. There must be one somewhere, anyone know of one?

I expect that some of the freeware GPS apps might work ok on the flash drive.

Which flash drives have an operating system to run apps with? Mine do not .. but I'd love to have one that would.

Ones with with new U3 Technology such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BND4GI/ref=pd_ys_pym_a_2/026-1878821-0030858?%5Fencoding=UTF8 which claims, quote:

"Includes the new U3 Smart Drive from Clever-stuff. Clever-Stuff U3 Smart Drives are the second generation in USB Flash Drives technology and bring a new level of intelligence to the device. It is now possible to install programs to USB Flash Drives and the Launchpad acts as a one-click gateway to the installed applications or software portals."

Here's a little more about the technology http://www.everythingusb.com/u3.html However, an ordinary flash drive should run some applications. If the application can run straight from its exe file without needing to use the registry then it can run on a flash drive. Portable Filezilla can do this as it leave no footprint in the registry. Feedreader 3.0 give you an option when installing asking if you intend running it from a Flash Drive and if you do it places all its files and folders within its program Folder. The uploading application for sending photos to Flickr photo share site has been found to be able to be run from a flash drive. I'm looking for a stand alone application for up/downloading GPS data and have just over six weeks to find one.
