Yesterday's Daily Mail (UK) had a full centre spread on drivers who
had been badly misled by their digital nav systems, headed "Driven
Round the Bend"
These included one guy whose sat-nav directed him on a route which
totalled 56 miles, but which his own knowledge of the route told him
the shortest distance was in fact 13 miles. Another guy complained
his sat-nav directed him over a cliff, and one whose digital wonder
directed him into a dead-end.
I got the impression that the Mail had gone out of its way to find people who had been given wacky routes. The treatment was very superficial - not once mentioning what routing options (fastest, shortest, avoiding motorways, etc.) had been selected by the users.
Given it's a newspaper, and the Daily Mail, not a surprise. A balanced story would not have been sensational enough ;)
