Decent maps a must, points of interest not so much.
Routing OK, but I prefer to think for myself.
Interface with a GPS is nice but not essential. My III is still going
strong with almost 4000 hours of use.
Really don't want to have to buy virtual PC and foll around with
forground and background tasking.
Thanks in advance.

I bought Route 66, but frankly, I have been using Google Earth. the
software is free and there is a $19 download for attaching a GPS. The
maps aren't actually stored on your machine, but I have been told you
can cache pretty much whatever you need. Mostly I use it connected to
the internet. I like it a lot, but so far, the routing really sucks.
