Thanks for your replies! What are the differences between the GPSMAPWith Beta 2.71, the track logs get saved with the day in the
60Cx and 76Cx units?
kc, I assume that with the beta software that you can devote as muck SD
card memory as is available to the track log? Is this only available
with "beta" software - and have you found any problems with the s/w?
name. That means the largest track log on the micro SD card the unit
will save is 24 hours of track. If the unit is running past midnight
local time, it creates a new file with the new date and keeps on
ticking. With this caveat, there doesn't seem to be a limit except
the size of the micro SD card you have.
When you get it back to the PC, MapSource does become a problem. I
have a 7 Meg track which took 17 hours to gather. It takes MapSource
over 15 minutes to open this track on my 2GHz laptop. During that
time, MapSource is taking 100% of the CPU. The MapSource
data parser needs some real work! Once the track is in MapSource it
seems to handle it just fine.
Garmin still has to fix some problems on the 60cx/76cx software. After
reading the forums, I've avoided using WAAS and Li batteries due
to problems with the software. (I hope the Li battery issue is just
software!)
I saw that you bought the 76cx. It should be a great unit. Have fun.
