Assuming one trackpoint per second, that is about 120 bytes per

Sigh, they are using xml. I was really hoping it would be something
along the lines of:
float-lat
float-lon
float-altitude
int32 time
That would have been 16 bytes per trackpoint. Instead we have:
I have the GPS Utility software. The docs for that says it will process XML as follows:
- EasyGPS *.LOC files (both binary and XML types)
- GPSXML files (*.gpx files - possibly with limitations at present)
If I take this from your example:

delete the ">" quotes, save that to a text file with a *.xml name, and open the file with GPS Utility if gives me the following:
Seq No. 0001
Coordinates N37 07.4074 W121 07.4074
Alt 85.6 ft
Symbol S
Time 06/5/2006 21:56:05
Track Name ACTIVE LOG145605
So it looks like GPS Utility will process your xml files. My result above is formatted for my GPSU settings and you could change those of course.
If you want to play with that further you can download a trial version of GPS Utility. And the author, Alan Murphy, is very interactive with users. He seems to be interested in keeping his software up to date with most current GPS receivers and and will probably be glad to discuss that with you.
