I did not receive an answer to my e-mail to BlueSoliel. However, they do
offer
what they call a "commercial" product, which for some reason, is not
availabe to
users of their basic software provided by GlobalSat with their Bluetooth
receivers.
I was, however, able to accomplish a Bluetooth connection with all of my
mapping and GPS
software, and as a matter of fact, do so with multiple applications running.
The software product is by Franson and called GpsGate. It is available in
two forms
the simpler package provides one Garmin emulator COM port and one NMEA
Com port. The larger package provides a Garmin emulator gate and four NMEA
COM ports.
Thanks for your help Dale.

Thanks again Dale! I had written BlueSoleil yesterday (5/25) and asked if
they had a suggestion, or solution, to the question on port selection.
They offer a wide product line of Bluetooth connection software. Perhaps
the more advanced products give more options. I will let you know what
their response is.

In this case I would suggest you resort to the registry and edit the
values to set the com port. Also write the BlueSoleil company and get
them to fix this. I have delt with them in the past and they are a pretty
good company.

Thanks Dale, but the installation software for the GlobalSat BTA-806
Bluetooth Dongle (BlueSoleil 2.1.3.0 Release 060429) doesn't give you
the option of a custom installation. It installs 11 virtual COM ports
for various devices and starts them at COM port 10. After un-installing
and re-installing the software, I ended up with the Bluetooth virtual
COM ports starting at 14.

When you set up your Bluetooth software you can control the com ports it
will use. YOu may need to uninstall the software and then select custom
install when you re-install.

Can anyone tell me if I can connect VisualGPS software to a
GlobalSat BT-338 Bluetooth receiver with COM port 11 but the VisualGPS
software COM port settings go from 1 to 8?
I guess the question would apply to all GPS and mapping software
with a limited menu of COM ports.
Streets and Trips offers a range of COM ports that permits a
connection.
The Bluetooth COM port is selected in the discovery and connect
process between the receiver and radio. Can I influence the COM port
selection?
Thank you for any help you can offer.
