How accurate is the elevation on US topo?




I am curious how these measurements are made. There's a line that runs
close to my home and say 131 ft. How accurate is that? Within 10 ft?
Within 5 ft?

Averaging using the GPS seems to indicate it's fairly accurate.

Are the measurements done using satellite?

The streets are not as accurate as my City Navigator...
