Re: Garmin Legend Cx and WebUpdater

When I ran the WebUpdater today for my Legend Cx it told me that I already have the latest software version.

So far so good.

But then it tells me that "there may be further updates available for your device". When I continue it then asks me to "Put a check mark next to the updates you wish" and then gives me the option of the GPSmap 60cx/60CSx/76Cx/76CSx! It then seems to be willing to go ahead with the download.

I assume that it would eventually do a double check to prevent loading the wrong firmware. Being a cautious soul I didn't want to take the risk and possibly end up with a broken gps receiver.

Has anyone else actually gone to the next step and downloaded GPSmap firmware to their Legend? What happened?

I just learned yesterday that there are two softwares on my recently received 76Cx. As named in the System>Setup>Menu>Software Version menu, those are the "Software Version" and the "GPS SW Version". The most recent version for those two are V2.90 and V2.60 respectively.

Does the Legend Cx report two software versions like the 60 and 76 "x" series receivers?

The "Software Version" can be updated either with WebUpdater or by running the update manually. The SiRF receiver's "GPS SW" software can only be updated using the WebUpdater.

When I did mine yesterday with WebUpdater I had already installed V2.90 and WebUpdater reported that I had the latest software, then it offered the GPS SW update to V2.60 using a process as you describe above.

I think the "GPS SW" update is only for the SiRF III receivers (which Garmin calls only SiRF, not SiRF III). So the second up might not be appropriate for the Legend.

Since you might have to pay Garmin's flat rate service fee to recover from an inappropriate software upload, your caution is probably appropriate.
