Sure, if a route was just made out of joined up waypoints it would be
hell!
But that is not how it works... and this is the whole point.
A route calculated (or designed) in MapSource or the device are made up
of directions between waypoints.
You don't see these except either in the Directions tab in mapsource
(see the pics in my blog post above) or the navigation pop-ups that
appear when you're riding/driving along.
That is what road route is and they are deleted when the rout goes.
There's no software complexity.
There is, however, a storage issue - maybe there isn't enough internal
storage on the 60CSx?... Hummm, interesting; clearly Garmin aren't
quite in control of the flash card file system yet (given the firmware
upgrades) maybe they'll implement this properly and store the routes to
the card... that would be really great!
How much internal memory do these boxes have?

I agree that this function could be programed into the software. But,
then you would eventually have a ton of additional waypoints in your
GPSR - some of which might be associated with other routes on points of
interest. I would want a way to delete all those Mapsource generated
waypoints, and only those points specific to the deleted route and
nothing else. I can see some serious issues with designing this into
the GPSR.
