THIS IS WAY-WEIRD (?glitch w/ legend c?)

Hi all.....
I got to backpack into Colorado hi country; we spent 2 nites at a lake
approx 12000msl.
On the trip up, hike of approx 3 - 3.5 miles, of course I lost the
sat.reception a couple times....
BUT,
just as I arrived at the destination, hoping to see a fairly accurate
odometer reading, the thing "flashed" from an earlier 2.2 miles, to
7.6 miles!!!! What's up with that??
Anyone ever have that happen before? ((after downloading the tracks at
home, it appeared that I had retraced my steps about 1/3 the way!
still, 7.6 was way out of line!)
the rest of the trip, I tracked several small hikes, played around
with the elevation readings, etc, & had no furher problems....
BUT, that 7.6 miles "thing" sure weirded me out! (I had just updated
my software to v 2.60, about 2-3 weeks ago....)
FYI, I was able to get 5-6 ft accuracy, while I was at altitude....
I left the trail at what I perceived the hi-point, & got 12512msl...
that figure was "close" to the 1955 topo map :->
.
