The MapSource program includes the means to transfer maps, routes and
waypoints to your Garmin 2610 over its USB cable. After selecting the items
in the maps, waypoints or routes tabs that you wish to download, look under
the Transfer menu option and select Send to Device. Assuming it has indeed
found your Gamin unit, the Send to Device dialog box has checkboxes for
selecting which items on the selected tabs should be transferred.
If your Garmin doesn't show up with a USB connection, you haven't yet
installed the Garmin USB driver. That should have been done when MapSource
was installed. If necessary you can also download the latest version of the
Garmin drivers from their support website. The version I have is from
8/2004 and the self-extracting filename is USBDrivers_21.exe. (Of course
this discussion assumes that your laptop is a Windows PC and not a Mac or
running Linux.)
Indeed after your routes, waypoints etc have been downloaded to the 2610,
it will navigate for you nearly like it does here, except as I mentioned in
my previous message, that it won't recalculate the route if you miss a turn
or otherwise get off-route. The turn-by-turn instructions worked normally,
as I recall, and of course sounded just like they always do. To enhance
your British experience, you could also download the British sound files
from Garmin's website and install them in your 2610. Then it will sound
like a female UK TV newscaster ;-)
Good luck and have a fun and safe trip to UK.

Hi Don,
I am in a similar situation as you. I have a US Garmin GPS and am
vising the UK for a week but don't want to spend $300 to buy the CN
Europe just for a week's worth of driving. I have downloaded Metro
Guide Europe onto my laptop and can prepare a route on the laptop
itself but I do not know how to upload this to the GPS. Could you
please, please, please tell me how to do so? Once uploaded, will the
GPS behave just like it does normally and tell me when to turn etc.?
.
