Re: metroguide europe on usa 2610

Several people have been able to reverse engineer the Garmin
algorythums and can generate GPS unlock codes.

However, those individuals are keeping a tight reign on those and have
not released any keygens to the public (so they can continue to
collect fees for their unlock codes).

That's news to me about someone being able to generate unlock codes like
that, but really doesn't surprise me that much. There are lots of
hackers out there who figure out ways to circumvent the license codes.
In my own programming experience with a couple different licensing tools
used by applications for my employer, they seem to commonly support
generating term-limited license keys.

It's a crapshoot whether you're possibly falling for a Garmin sting or
have found a "legitimate" hacker. That's impossible to know the answer
to that unless several other people chime in with convincing
confirmation on way or the other. In either case you'd be "cheating" to
try to get the license key that way.

Hi Don,
Thank you for the explanation. While looking for ways to download the
routes onto my Garmin, I found this guy on the internet who offered to
send me unlock codes for the City Navigator Europe. He said that for a
fee of $40, he would generate a code specifically for my GPS unit. As
a proof of concept, he offered to send me an unlock code which would
work for a week and then expire. If I like what I see, I would have to
pay him $40 for the permanent code. Well, I sent him my Unit ID and
asked him to generate a free "temporary unlock code" for my unit. He
sent it to me this morning and I tried it and walla...it works. What I
don't understand is how is he able to do this? I have looked high and
low and have not found a keygen on the internet. I thought it did not
exist because if it did, I would be out on the internet in no time.
The other thing is I don't understand how he's able to generate a
"temporary code". I didn't even know you could do that. I'm just a bit
confused becuase if a keygen actually does not exist, the only way
this guys could be generating it is if he is a spy for Garmin trying
to get my identity. Once I pay for the real code, I would have the
Garmin cops after me. Is that possible?
