The US is marking the bicentennial anniversary of the famous Lewis and Clark
Western expedition, one of the great adventures in American history.

One of our members here (maybe Sam Wormley) helped make a
GPS map of the trail...???

Hi Jack--A few others from this newsgroup know this. The Lewis and Clark
Precision Survey Project Proposal included a Trimble Pathfinder Pro XRS
with the OmniSTAR subscription. There was a big hassle in the form of "we
can't give you the money till you have the equipment" and "you can't order
the equipment till you have the money". So working with the vendor based
on trust, I proceeded.

The short version is that I got kicked off the project in April 2002 for
insubordination! I accepted the equipment from the vendor (with guarantee
of payment) before the check worked its way through the bureaucracy. I
put a lot of planning and expertise into the project--only to be booted
off of it. The survey did get completed completed.

Acknowledgment in a "Lewis and Clark - Lolo Trail Precision Survey",
includes: "Sam Wormley deserves a huge thanks for helping with the
preliminary planning and the selection of the Trimble Pathfinder Pro XRS
precision GPS unit. His extensive knowledge of GPS and its survey
technology were invaluable".

I'm glad I was able to make a contribution, but am disappointed that I
did not actually collect the data.

(sigh)

I listened to this the other day--when I was interviewed on NPR ATC
http://discover.npr.org/features/feature.jhtml?wfId=1127858

I did pretty well on air, in hind sight.
