Better than a GPS

I took a cross-country hike this past weekend. I used GE to set target
waypoints in my Foretrex 201. It worked very well. I noticed, however, that
the track out and the track back differed sometimes by up to 100 feet even
though I took the same path coming and going. My dog went with me. He is
always ready to get back to the house and rest, so he leads the way back.
His path back did not deviate more that a few feet from the path we took on
the way out. I know this because I could see my footprints in the soft
earth.
My dog makes the GPS look like a stone-age tool when it comes to
backtracking.
