Not in this case.

It's explained on page 11 of the manual.

If the pointer is over an area where no map data exists you will see a
flag icon in the top right corner. Tap the flag icon and you get the
New Map Waypoint page. Tap the OK button.

If the pointer is over an existing map object you will see an "i" icon
in the top right corner. Tap the "i" icon and you will get an
information page (see page 10). The flag icon is now at the bottom
left. Tap the flag icon as before and then "OK".

If this doesn't work I think you have a problem with your unit.
