I took a cross-country hike this past weekend. I used GE to set targetthat
waypoints in my Foretrex 201. It worked very well. I noticed, however,
the track out and the track back differed sometimes by up to 100 feeton

though I took the same path coming and going. My dog went with me. He is
always ready to get back to the house and rest, so he leads the way back.
His path back did not deviate more that a few feet from the path we took
the way out. I know this because I could see my footprints in the softThe dog has equally good eyesight and followed his own footprints in the
earth.
My dog makes the GPS look like a stone-age tool when it comes to
backtracking.

Well, being in Texas, snow is not plentiful this time of year and this past
weekend the temperature was up to almost 80. No snow.
Since the dog did not seem to be sniffing around much, I don't think he was
using his nose to find his way back. I'm a bit perplexed as to how he
actually pulled this off. It's not the first time he has done this, either.
I'm not really maligning GPS. I am just sometimes amazed by what nature has
done for critters' abilities. I have a lot to learn.
