Navigating with GPX data on-the-fly (long)

Hello again Sat-nav'ers,
What software enables travelers to wirelessly download and use
gps-enabled tour guides in GPX format?
As a provider of GPS tour guides and POI data, I realize that patrons
would have more use for the content I provide if they could access it
on-demand. For example: You don't realize you need a map until you're
lost. And similarly, you don't want a tour guide until you've got a
couple of hours to kill before leaving town.
At present, most TravelByGPS.com patrons download data and transfer to
their portable device prior before heading out on adventure. This sort
of mission planning is a common task for GIS and surveying
professionals, but typically only the hard-core enthusiasts take the
time to load-up on data ahead of time - unless of course you're going
on a geocaching adventure in which getting point of interest data is
part-in-parcel with the activity.
The folks at geocaching.com have simplified the mission planning
process by offering pocket queries, but data delivery by email, even on
a once-a-day basis, falls short of being "on-demand."
Well known developers of GPS-enabled applications, include Trimble,
Garmin, and TomTom but none of these appear to have applications for
use on smartphones running Windows Mobile featuring GPX import
wirelessly from Internet sources. I am focused on smartphones running
Windows Mobile because there are a lot of Windows programmers out-there
and the phones are Internet ready right-out-of the-box. I am focused
on data in GPs eXchange (GPX) format because most all data at
TravelByGPS.com is in this format.
Trimble Outdoors has phone based navigation application and on-line
trip sharing but you must have a Nextel/Sprint phone. I understand
Trimble offers trip data is in GPX format but I do not believe that the
phone application can wirelessly access the trip data. Pehaps someone
familiar with this program can reply with clarification.
Garmin offers Mobile Manager "a subscription-based application that
delivers maps and ... dynamic content such as fuel prices, weather and
traffic..." but again hardware is limited to Nextel/Sprint phones and
Blackberry devices.
TomTom's Plus Service, appears to offer similar services to Garmin
Mobile Manger, but is more flexible with hardware requirements. One of
the Plus services includes "Routes" which are scenic drives available
for most of Western Europe. This is encouraging, however have not read
anywhere that this feature works with GPX data.
I post my query to this group in hopes that some of you will point me
to applications that I may have overlooked. (Dale, I did search your
site but did not find anything I was looking for.)
I am committed to providing free GPS tour guides and you can bet that I
will be an evangelist for any appilication that creates more demand for
what I do.
I look forward reading your thoughtful replies.
