Re: Q: PS2 to USB Virtual Serial Com Port and/or something or other

<snipped>

If rewired to replace the male ps2 connector with a male usb
connector, any suggestions for software/drivers compatible
with Windows 2000 and/or XP Pro. I'm a little iffy here, but
there's away if inexpensive and compatible drivers are
available and can be found.

No way- at least twice the number of chanels into half the number
needs electronic switching and encoded hardware to manage the
follow through the data bottle neck. Also, on one end the data's
turtle speed get boost to hyperspeed while data translation from
serial to usb occurs withing the change of speed near
simultaneouly. Just another one of those times where fantasy and
reality never gets to meet.

After reading your posts I found this: USB PS2 adapters,
BF-600,
http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/usb-ps2-adapter.htm. It
Uses Prolific. It maybe worth the extra $20, or so, that will
take less of my time as well.

For around $30 (including tax), I bought the Iogear USB to
Serial/PDA Converter (not an adapter- just wiring from one type
of connector to another; the converter has electronics with
encoded hardware between one type of connector and another)
Cable, p/n GUC232A for $15 (originaly priced at $30 but the
package was opened with the install and driver disk missing, a
good deal), a 4 port USB hub on sale for $4 was $15 (another good
deal), and a usb port/ps2 mouse adapter for $4. Not to bad for
saving at least $20 off a new mouse or $70 for some combo, and I
learned a little something too. May not have been the best or
worst way to go about it, but at least I'm up and running again
8-)

What ever I decide. It will be $30, or more, less than buying
something new. In any event, regardless, I will use whatever
moneys saved, if any, to rasie an extra glass, or more, of
cheer in honor of you kind souls and others like you.

Any savings got spent on crab legs in addition to roast beef
Holiday dinner potluck with friends and family. Looking foward to
some good cheer that I hope reaches many and lasts for some time
to come.

Again, Happy Holidays!!!
