DeLorme again. This device does include a world base map, which may be
among the most accurate for GPS positioning, granted only at the major
highway and road level (not streets), and not capable of allowing
preplanned routing except in the U.S. We have spent the past two years
making a world database that is uniformly GPS accurate at this level,
meaning the shorelines and land-use, land-cover are positioned
correctly as well as the major road infrastructure. So...Africa and
China are as accurate as Europe. Would have been very handy for the
tsunami in Thailand but we were not ready then.

Not so much for poeple in other areas of the world. Or is your
definition of "Global" positioning system reducing "Global" to the
typical US point of view of that (that is, ending at US borders)?
