Hello to everyone in the group. I was wondering if someone may be able
to give me some advice. I know very little about GPS's but was
considering buying a Garmin Etrex Legend for a duel role of both hiking
and for navigation in larger cities.
I'm not sure how easy it would be to use for navigating through cities? From what I have read about the Legend it would be fine for hiking but
I realise that one of the street map GPS's would be far better in the
car but I would really like a duel role GPS. Would I be able to get by
with unit? Is it easy and quick to read while in traffic. Thanks for
any advice. Cheers, Joe.
The Etrex Legend does not support autorouting. You can create a rouite on
the PC and download however if you deviate from the route then the unit will
not recalculate a route for you.
I have a GPSMAP 60CS which I used for automobile navigation for a while.
You can get a "car kit" for it which includes a mounting device and an auto
power cable. The mounting works pretty good, except it can be difficult to
attach to the dash. It comes with adhesive disks, however I ended up using
velcro so I could pull the base off and use it for a different auto.
Another issue with using it for automobile use is that the backlight is very
strong. Most automobile oriented units will have a stronger backlight.
