Don't use sd cards because you cant install them on your computer. The
only purpose I can see is for the people who don't have computers and they
only need maps on the gps.you can buy micro sd 1gb and install complete city
navigator nt north America on it. Make sure you get NT version ,it is more
efficiently compressed and it is compatible with your unit.

Thanks to info we got from this group we picked the Garmin GPS76Cx unit
for our GPSr.
Now we are working on get some mapping software for it and need some
more info if anyone has it. We are definitely getting City Navigator and
are going to get some topo maps also. Here's where we run into the
problem. The National Parks version is specific to the parks and the US
Topo seems to lack something. I got this from reading reviews on Amazon,
not first hand knowledge which is why I am asking here. But Garmin also
sells Topo on microSD cards that covers just a few states each. Does
anyone know how good or bad these are? If they are just a subset of the
US Topo CD then I guess that is what we will use.
