I have a new (~3 weeks) GPSMap 76S that seems to work great.
Well, 99.999% great... Two things I've noticed --
1. Twice it has abruptly powered off when I was pressing keys with the
compass displayed, once upon Enter to start calibration and the other
(ISTR) when I held down Page to turn the compass on. It came back up
just fine and was OK both times.
If it was a firmware problem (most likely) you can see the cause of the death by looking in the debug screen. From trip computer display you use the joystick to go up, right, down, left (if that doesn't work, go round again, since I may have forgotten where it starts from). That should give you a screen listing the last half dozen or so screw ups.
Oh yeah, 'quit' iirc, gets you back.
