Version 6 of TomTom's software allows you to specify Lat/Long (but not OS
grid ref, as far as I can see) as a destination.
But I'm not sure how much use it is. It can only navigate along roads it
knows about, so if you specify a point in the middle of nowhere, it will
only take you to the nearest point it can find on a road - which could be
quite a long way from your intended destination, and not the best place to
walk from. For example, the nearest road point might be on the opposite side
of a lake!

I use Lat/Long as a superior alternative to postal addresses, rather
than to specify off-road points. It takes fewer keystrokes, and it
gives you a unique point on the planet without the risk and delay of a
lookup. I use 34° 08' 40.3" N 118° 23' 32.5" W on my business cards,
which will take you right to the place where you stop and check in
with the security guard. You can get the point you want to use from
Google Earth.
