In light of the original posters question the answer is that it does not support the separate download of user defined POI databases independent of the download of maps. Later products do support the download of independent POI's that can be entered by the users. The person answering the question was not specific enough but meant well. You can, of course, add waypoints which can be used like poi's as the responder indicated.
