The important thing is that 51 is Canadian, and provides both the position
information (sometimes) that gives you the black bar, and I recall that it
offers correction data for more of the GPS satellites than the US WAAS
satellites do. That last bit might be a vague recollection. Take it with
as much weight as my seeing 51 in May of the wrong year.

So how many global navigational systems are currently functional (I'm referring to NAVSTAR, GLONASS, and eventually [maybe] GALILEO)? Do the Chinese have something similar? Anyone else? I'm assuming that #51 would be part of the NAVSTAR system... are certain NAVSTAR satellites controlled by countries other than the United States or is #51 a rogue navigational satellite launched by Quebec separatists ;-)?
