Hi Jack,
I am familiar with the setting of the audio outputs and which language to
use in the menu.
Also I read the manual from A to Z and back, but there is absolutely no
mentioning of voice guidance or voice status messages in *Aviation* mode.
The only thing I can conclude from the manual is that it has voice guidance
in Automotive mode, so I have to just rely on what others tell me here.

It also shows the details of the wiring in the cable and the connecting
pins on the 296. The simplest solution might be to get the DC adapter
with the built in speaker, if that worked out okay wiring it as an input
to an intercom could be explored.

Yes, but have you ever tried to connect a speaker to the weird connector of
a 296? This is virtually impossible without using the bare wires cable
(which I don't have yet), also I don't want to risk to make a short circuit.
In the meantime I ordered the power charger with built-in speaker, and I
expect it in a couple of days to arrive, after which I can do some really
good testing.

If you want it to be an audio input to typical aircraft intercom system it
will require a little "engineering" but it might be as simple putting a
plug on the audio pair, plugging it into an intercom controller, and
setting the VOX levels to respond the the voltage rise when the GPS
speaks.

It depends on the willingness of the aircraft operator if I may add such an
audio input, but the past showed they are not very willing to make
modifications on the plane.
The easiest solution is some sort of a jack plug with an external audio
input for the 296, which I can put in between the existing chassis-plug and
the headphones jack plug, does somebody now if such a thing exists?

I have a StreetPilot 2610 GPS receiver that uses a similar speaker and DC
adapter, it works very well and is easily heard even in a moderately noisy
automobile. Open speaker audio is not going to work in a typical light
aircraft but buying the adapter would let you test it and give you the
cable and a good starting point.

I fly in Piper PA28 and Cessna 172 planes, and I think these environments
are too noisy for a speaker to be heard, but of course I shall try it first.
