Rayovac Hybrid NiMh 2100Mah
A belated reply to this interesting thread:
I've observed that Sanyo's NiMH rechargeable batteries have
gotten worse and worse over the years. The best ones, and I
still have several of them in use since 7 years, were the Sanyo
Twicell 1,600 mAh AA cells.
As the capacity went up, eventually to 2,500 mAh, two other
parameters got worse and worse:
1. Self discharge
2. Useful life time
In the latest 2,500 mAh cells the self discharge is already bad
when they come from the factory and gets rapidly worse after a
few months. Compare that the the old Twicells, which, at least,
kept some charge for a couple of months or even for half a year.
Now I have begun to throw away the old ones, as they
deteriorate, and switched to Sanyo's eneloop type, which is a
dream come true. The only thing I don't know yet is their useful
life time, but hope always dies last. (:-)
Anyway, I just wanted to reinforce that the eneloop batteries
are the ones practically everyone wants, not any Rayovac Hybrid.
The breakthrough is the minimal self-discharge, which is far
more important, for various reasons, than a higher capacity.
So it is eneloop or any forthcoming competitor that is equally
good. The eneloop AA batteries advertise 2,000 mAh, their
smaller AAA brethren 800 mAh. They can be charged with any good
NiMH charger.
A small detail is that their voltage is a tad higher than that
of conventional NiMH cells.
