Terje,

thanks for your interesting test.

One would expect that the batteries you bought were once fully
charged after manufacturing. But your results leave only two
interpretations. Either they weren't or Sanyo's claim to a
self-discharge of only 15% per year is way off the mark.

Since we cannot find out which of the two is true, we have to
wait for more information.

I guess that some people will, for one reason or another, leave
some batteries uncharged and unused for a longer time and can
report their findings.

If it is that uncommon to be able to tell if the cells have superiour
self-discharge charaterisitics, does it really matter?

I bought a charger with standard NiMH cells a couple of years ago and
got excited about the advantages of the higher capacity cells. So I
bought a fast charger for the car with four AA fast charge/high
capacity cells. Two years later I can't tell which is which as I use
them. The bottom line is that although I may be getting 20% longer
life from a charge, it does not significantly impact my usage since I
am seldom in a position where I have to depend on the cells holding up
for a given amount of time.

It sounds like for most people, you could give them standard cells and
tell them they were slow self-discharge cells and they would have a
hard time telling in their typical use. So why bother?
