I'd have to disagree with your "similar". The US government has
exhibited many times in the past that it is more easily swayed by
taxpayer, or voter, pressure than most European governments.
One tiny example - did the Clinton administration remove selective
availability from the GPS signals because the pentagon asked them to?
I don't think so!
