Short Description: I have the latest versions of OziExplorer,
(3.95.4q), Garmin's Trips and Waypoint Manager (3.00)'s USB driver,
(grmnusb.sys:
2.2.0.4), installed on two different XP home computers and on one XP
laptop. Using the same Garmin 76CSx GPS, connected via the same USB
cable that was supplied with my Garmin GPS, Ozi locks up on each of
these three computers when running in Ozi's Moving Map mode, on the
same map, in Ozi's PVT transfer mode.

Is your Garmin set to grmn-grmn mode in the instrument's setup (I/O)
programme? Ozi requires this when using USB/PVT (see help files.)

Hi Dennis,

Following your lead, I went to the Ozi help files, and found this:

"If using a Garmin with a true USB interface connected to the PC by a
USB cable:

[snip]

10. You can use the PVT mode of the GPS for moving map (real time
tracking) operation. You must tick the "Use PVT for Garmin instead of
NMEA" checkbox on the COM tab. When using this method the interface
setting in the GPS must be placed in Garmin mode (called GRMN/GRMN
HOST on older models). "

I checked, and my 76CSx is set to Garmin mode, (as noted above), and
I am unable to find a grmn-grmn, (or GRMN/GRMN); so I'm guessing that
this setting is for earlier models than the 76(?)

Have I missed something, or do you have any other ideas?

Thanks again,
David

No more ideas David, the older models used the term Garmin-Garmin, which is
the same as "garmin" on the newer models. I use A GPSMAP60CS which I believe
has essentially the same software as your 76Csx, but so far have had no
problems with cutting out or locking up.

I presume if you revert to serial port data transfer you will have problems
with your USB-serial converters? I have not had this either, although
finding the correct port number is often a problem reported in the Ozi/Yahoo
group. There are professionals associated with this group who may be able to
offer more advice than my humble (7 years) experience.
