Re: Garmin GPS Long & Lat help

Standard format in the marine and aviation industries are degrees
minutes and decimal minutes (hddd mm.mmm) and this is the format that
most GPS units are set to out of the box

Other latitude and longitude formats are degees, minutes and seconds
(hddd mm ss.s) and degrees and decimal degrees (hddd.ddddd)

Set your unit to whichever format the position you have been given is
in then enter the position. Then change your unit to the position
format you prefer and your unit will do the conversion.

Hello all.

I am trying to add way points manualy to my GPSs (old eMap and eTrex).

My problem is converting the long & lats to Garmins format. Some
sources use decimal, while others use deg/min/sec, and I have found
many converters on-line, however, Garmin, for some reason, uses a
combination of the two, IE; N34 (degrees) 12.617'.

Any body know of a site, or the formula to convert decimal and/or
deg/min/sec to Garmins format?

Thanks a bunch!
