Google Earth update succeed - application doesn't run

I have problems on Google Earth update, and I may need help on making a backup of MyPlaces data.
Some days ago I planned to update the Google Map client on my PC.
I downloaded the update app from Internet, and run it successfully (i.e. no error messages).
But now the application doesn't start. Instead, a dialog appears with the following message:
"The procedure entry point ?SetDefaultRenderTarget@RenterPrefs@render@earth@@SAXW41Target@ApiLoader@evll@3@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library render.dll."
The render.dll is dated on Jan 31, and located in the same folder with the Goole Earth application.
Perhaps re-installing from scratch would help?
To do that, I will have to remove the app first.
Before removing, how can I make a backup copy of the MyPlaces data - the coordinates and other data I had stored in Google Earth? I don't seem to find any file containing that data, so where is it stored?
