You probably want to look at the eTrex Vista HCx or the GPSMAP 60Cx or 60CSx. All of those have the SiRF III chip set and the same or very similar capabilities and features. The CSx models have built in altimeters and compasses, the Cx models do not.

From what I've heard, Garmin has switched to a new chip supplier for
the "H" series. It may be using a chip from MediaTek not a SiRF III.

The SiRF III is very expensive and other companies are now
producing similar "high sensitivity" (high number of correlators)
chips for less.
