It covers an area that includes selected National Parks and a little beyond. I live about 8 miles or so from Acadia National Park and am included in their coverage of that park, I'm just inside the boundaries.
I have U.S. Topo and looked at the difference in the details between that and 24K Topo areas I was familiar with. I decided that I didn't really want to spend the money for the 24K package.
Part of the decision was that the limited 24K coverage does include most of the areas I would go to. And if I get off the beaten track to a fairly serious extent, I would have a USGS 24K paper map (and a compass) with me for backup and additional detail. So the coarser 100K detail on the handheld and a paper map will get me through things fine.
