What is the best method to synchronize my location on a Garmin

Of course, I can write down the geo coord every time I shoot a
picture and then record the direction I was facing but would
like something easier.

I do it simply by logging a track on my rides and hikes, then
comparing the time stamp in the photo's EXIF data with the track
points' times. The GPS clock is, of course always correct. My
camera's clock drifts less than a minute in three months, so keeping
them in sync is easy. One could also create a waypoint at each photo
stop, but this one would often forget.

Fred,

I believe I recognize you from ACycling. I intend to take these
pictures along the Canadian Rockies from Jasper to Missoula. Went to
my Nikon D-80 and found the DTG information in Metadata File
Properties, not in the normal EXIF location. I want to geosynch
picture with location using my GPS track log and a map. Everything
mentions jpeg; will it also work with RAW? I realize you didn't
discuss the commercial products but do you know if they are programmed
to look only into EXIF and to use only jpeg formatted photos?

If you are with Adventure Cycling, another question I posed
considering navigating an established route (one for the above ride)
received a curt response saying I only had to identify the route and
ask the GPS to navigate it. I wanted the normal alerts telling me the
turn was near, etc. I have the Garmin Map 60csx and when I tried that
with a route I created for a local ride, I didn't get those alerts.
Since you can't actually see what I did wrong, would you explain what
I should do with AC routes and my GPS to get the alerts for following
turns along the route.

Doug
