When folks help you by answering posts, providing suggestions, etc.,
what's the proper way to say thank you?

There really is no need to.

Mail them directly or just leave a message here hoping they will come
back and see it???

You can do both.
If people post with an obviously usable email adress
they invite mail and can be mailed.

Better not use a posting only for saying thanks.
Try to say it in connection with some useful content.
Remember that your postings will be read by a lot of people,
not just one.

And NEVER start a new thread just to say thanks,

Jan
