An adit is a horizontal mine tunnel. The Y is the symbol showing the
location of the adit. The direction the Y points *may* indicate the
direction of the tunnel (I am not sure about this part of it). Most often
just the Y is shown on the topo map, but I recall having seen them labeled
adit as well.

I am intent on searching USGS 7.5' Topo Maps for the term "ADIT Y"
The word "DIT"appears to be hand written. The symbol "Y" has the
bottom leg of the "Y" pointed in the direction that the "ADIT" is
pointed.

Does anyone know of a data base that would contain this information?
