Bluetooth GPS & Sirf III chipset

Hello group,
I have been using a Garmin Bluetooth Gps 10 for a good while. Works good, but not as sensitive as one with a Sirf III chipset. So I bought a GlobalSat BT359, equipped with the Sirf III chipset.
The BT359 is not waterproof, surely more sensitive than the Garmin one. The Snr (Signal to noise reduction) threshold seems to be around 15.
I use these on board large ships as well as the other available instruments. Even inside a steel wheelhouse, with of course lots of large windows, the BT 359 keeps the position fairly constantl and very stable. I don't understand how the signal can go thru steel since it captures the satellites even high in the sky. I noticed that the Snr of the sat's are then decreased in the high 20's, or low 30's, compared to the high 40's when the receiver is well placed outside.
So I wonder if the BT359 signals and position are good enough to rely on even if the Snr are rather low although I have always very good HDOP, around 1.0 and even below, and the number of tracked satellites is good as well.
The Garmin works well but the receiver has to be placed at an optimum position outside. Mind you that here (47N, 71W), it goes to 20 below during the long winter. That's why I thought of using a unit that works inside.
Many thanks
Jacquelin Hardy
