these new out of the bargain bin at Crap Tire. Are there any gotcha's
or other comments not mentioned in the popular reviews that he should
be warned about?

Good robust unit with almost everything you will need ( 3-axis compass,
altimeter, meteo-station, good reception ).
Only minus could be that Sportrak could record just one track as track, of
course you can convert track to route, but cannot store more tracks in
memory ( like eXplorist ).
If you can live with that there's no other major minuses.
