Ouch! I just assumed that you were uploading your maps from a PC, not
using a preloaded card.

The map file is coupled with the
serial # of the card. Actually, I have a map of another country and I
can't to use it on one card. That's why I need to backup the original
card bit-by-bit. I used the backup map file on the new (much bigger)
card and it didn't work.

The preloaded cards have map files that are unlocked to the microSD
cards unique serial number, that is how they prevent people from making
copies of them. So that map image file will not work on any other card.

Does the preloaded card have any free space on it? You can see that
from the Card Info menu. Menu > Menu > Setup > System >, press Menu,
choose Card Info, and press Enter.

If there is some free space on the card, you may be able to use that to
accumulate the *.gpx files I described above. But it might be a good
idea to ask your Garmin dealer if it is alright to write to the free
space on the preloaded cards.

I wouldn't think it would disturb anything as long as the original
gmapsupp.img file was not overwritten and was still on the microSD card
it is unlocked to.

Generally, at least for North American products, it is much cheaper to
buy the mapping data on CD or DVD and upload the map images yourself.
Was that not the case for your mapping?
