Well said!!

download that. If I'm traveling with my 76Cx too, it might lay quietly
somewhere in the back of the car, backlight off, doing the track
collection work in the background.

Do you use an external antenna?

I have one but have not bothered to use it yet. I put my 76Cx in my
backpack, carry it in the cargo pocket on my trousers when I need hands
free, leave laying here and there in the car, on boats, etc., and have
not noticed anyplace where it did not keep a fix.

If I were really concerned about having the best possible accuracy at
all times, I might use it. But otherwise, a steady 3D fix and maybe
even an occasional momentary drop to 2D does not bother me at all.

I sometimes have it on in the basement (single story wood frame home
with composition shingles). It will be slow to get a fix there if I
leave it laying on the metal framed computer desk with a lot of other
typical electronics going around it. But if I move away a few feet,
hold it aloft for a minute or so facing the south it will then quickly
obtain a fix and I can lay it back on the desk. As it lays there it
will eventually turn into a WAAS fix with 8-10 medium or so high bars.

Wonderful thing, the SiRF III chipset and antenna in the 60/76 "x"
series models.
