One of the three Glonass satellites launched into orbit last month
was put into operation November 25, bringing the current number of
usable satellites in the constellation to 10, according to the
Russian Space Agency.
It further said that another two satellites will be put into service
within a few weeks; one of the satellites put into orbit last month
is currently listed as still in a commissioning phase, according to
the agency's Information and Analytical Center.
Three Glonass satellites were successfully launched aboard a Russian
Proton rocket October 26 from Khazakstan's Baikonur space center. It
was the first launch since a Proton rocket crashed shortly after
liftoff in September; the Proton rocket is the only lift vehicle
large enough to carry the Glonass satellites into orbit. It was the
first Glonass-related launch since December 25, 2006.
