If I look at S. Philippines, the island I am concerned with shows only
about 30 or 40 elevations total for something that is about 25 miles
by 5 to 10 miles wide - I can do better than that manually from GE in
much less than a year of free time, hahaha.

I don't suppose the resolution is consistent worldwide, is it?

Maybe I'm not looking at the right data - too hard to tell. Maybe
I'll revisit these pages on a faster link somewhere.

I believe recent data is available as a seamless GeoTIFF file, which is probably the easiest thing to work with for many purposes. ...
