I think (not completely sure though) that the orbits take 1/2 of a sidereal
day. A sidereal day is the time it takes the earth to complete a revolution
on its axis relative to the *stars*. That is about 23hr 56min. So if you go
out every day at the same time you will see the satellite constellation in
about the same position it was the day before, and the birds will appear to
slowly move across the sky in the way that celestial constellations slowly
change during the year.

Geosynchronous oribts (about 35,000km), and a single orbit takes or a
GPS sat takes about 12 hours.
