Hello Group

We are not familiar w/ your group. We've looked @ your FAQs & didn't
see anything about our questions. We are in the market for a
new car. The Madza3 is one of our top choices Being old farts we want
a built in GPS & 'Back Up Camera'. The Mazda 3 only offers factory
GPS. If we were to have after market built in GPS & Back up camera
installed, do you have any insite as to weather or not it would that
affect the warranty on the car?

Is the correct group to ask this of? And if not, could you be so kind
as to refer us to a better group for this type of question.

Thank you very much, Drew

Ask the dealer if he has anyone capable of repairing it if something goes wrong. When we bought a Pontiac Vibe for my wife they had a factory GPS a $1600.00 option, and when I asked the dealer that question I was told they would have to remove the GPS from the car and send it in. I bought a Garmin Street Pilot with a sandbag mount for $600.00

Not sure if that is quite the right question.

What happens if your Garmin fails?
_You_ *remove* and *send* it in for repair.
Which consists of picking the GPS off the dash and sending it to Garmin at probably a week to 10 day turn around. The factory ones are much more complicated with the GPS head and a five or six DVD changer mounted in the car somewhere. Hard telling what the turn around time would be, not to mention them tearing the new car apart.
What happens if the Vibe GPS fails?
_Dealer_ *removes* and *sends* it in for repair.
And I get a loaner while they work on it.

They do differ in that though the repair center charges may be the same, the dealer will be charging for removal/reinstallation. Also, is GPS failure rate high enough to make this a concern in first place?
It is to me.

I think better questions would "cost of ownership".
1. Does Vibe's GPS have $1000 more functionality than the Garmin.
2. How long do you expect to keep the car? How many "generations" of
GPS "got to have" features does that cover? Leading to question of
how many times would each be updated and related costs.
I can update the maps in the Garmin for $75.00, I have never checked on it myself but have been told by others it's pretty pricey to replace the DVDs
.
