I don't follow your logic or lack thereof. As I've said before, stuff
that isn't mounted in the car attracts break-ins.
Stuff that *is* mounted in the car also attracts break-ins. I have the
broken window and I'm missing a radio to prove it. There was nothing
remarkable about the radio either.
Sort of depends on the definition of 'mounted'. Standard size radio in
standard size hole, eminently nickable. Range Rover radio, for instance,
is not a standard shape and is plumbed in to so many places you'd likely
much have to nick the whole dashboard and probably steering wheel too.
Ditto BMW Satnav, which is tied to a DVD player and plumbed in like
crazy.

Bingo. I've had two vehicles with built-in nav systems, and they are
really integral to the vehicle. About the only place the built in nav
could be fit is in the same vehicle, which of course came with a nav
system standard. So you rip out all this crap, only to sell it in the
illegal spare parts market. Yeah, there is a market, but it ain't like
yanking a nuvi and peddling it at the flea market.
I have a radar detector, though I generally don't use it. But I've
seen the same detector at flea markets for maybe 20% of new, though
missing accessories. Even George Bush could figure out where the unit
was acquired. Well, maybe...
