Stereo disparity maps



Hi,

I'm looking for starting points on the state of the art for the production
of dense disparity maps from stereo camera rigs. I am interested in both
real-time and offline techniques.

What I'd really like is a copule of recent key references so that I can take
the search from there. The project I'm working on is an augmented reality
application for simulation and assessment of surgical procedures. I have
already implemented a couple of algorithms for image rectification and one
"real-time" technique for disparity map production using an accumulator
approach (Schmidt, Niemann, Vogt - Dense Disparity Maps in Real-Time with an
Application to Augmented Reality), but I need to get an idea of what the
current favoured techniques are (if indeed there are any).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
